Gina Zo’s Burn Me Into Something Better

Last month I backed Gina Zo’s Kickstarter campaign to help her get her debut album made and tour to support it. Today is a day to celebrate because not only did Gina reach her goal (which means I can go sit by my mail box waiting for my campaign perks to come rolling in) but she also dropped her album, Burn Me Into Something Better.

I was drawn into Gina’s sound just from these videos, before hearing the whole album. Her song “Only Bad Men Make Me Feel This Way” and her ballads “Before You” and “When Will It Be My Turn” remind me of Twinnie in theme and sound, pop with a hint of country. The album is a collection of hardships that made Gina into the diva she is today but there are also hints of humor throughout, especially “I Like Men Who Like Men” which brings Cat Cohen to mind. I love when a diva can turn drama into art and her song “Fuck Me Then Leave Me” is the definition of that.

In my gay opinion, Burn Me Into Something Better, is the perfect mix of pop song stylings and universal songwriting. Each song is a little different than the one before but still have Gina’s unique voice and work well to form the whole album. Now I have to hope a tour follows.
