Jules Paymer’s I Was Born Crying And I’ll Die That Way, Too

I downloaded Jules Paymer’s debut album, I Was Born Crying And I’ll Die That Way, Too, continuing my MAD (Moody Acoustic Divas) Era. If you’ve checked out my last few posts, it’s not a cry for help, really, it’s not. These singer-songwriters that I’m a fan of just keep digging deep into their traumas and dark songs and albums are blooming around me.

Earlier this year I discovered Jules’ Girls Will Be Boys EP but their new album is more mellow and bleak. I Was Born Crying And I’ll Die That Way, Too could be a trigger for those suffering from suicidal thoughts (“Sweet Angelina”) or victims of sexual assault (“Summer 24”), however, no matter the struggles, each song is about fighting through self-medicating toward self-discovery.

In my gay opinion, Jules puts everything into their lyrics and songs, that are written or co-written by them. There’s no such thing as over sharing in Jules’ World. The tone is heavy but the album isn’t weighed down by over-production, musically it’s bare and raw. This is the album you want to put on to feel less alone or “see people more fucked up” than you.
