In my gay opinion, Zee Machine might be a son of a Bee…a Bee Gee that is. Zee’s new EP Hymphomania Vol 1 has many high-pitched vocals over some old-school 80’s vibes. If all the Bee Gees were still alive and putting out music, this is the sound they would be going for. Modern rock dance beats with a kiss of retro, just not as gay or as fun.
Zee’s mom must be Freddie Mercury with those locks, lip hair and love of leather!
Zee’s music has a harder edge than I tend to gravitate towards but it makes me move. Zee’s taken me to church and driven me to Hymphomania, really more like a short sashay away. I’m guided by his psalms of acceptance of body (“Brand New Body”) and aging (“Seat At The Table”) all the way to the promised land. After all, according to Zee, “Heaven Is A Gay Bar” and who wouldn’t want to spend eternity basked in disco ball lighting surrounded by a bunch of drag queens done up like Dolly Parton.
