I use Kickstarter to fulfill my desire to discover new music and most campaign perks scratch my itch for autographed merch. I use it like a dating app, swiping to search out new indie divas that strike my fancy. This past weekend, Gina Zo’s campaign to tour and put out her debut album, burn me into something better, caught my eye.
A fatal flaw, in my gay opinion, that many Kickstarter divas make (Gina, gurl, I’m looking at you) is not including a video introducing themselves (that’s like a profile without a pic) and worse, not putting a music sample to give a taste of what to expect (the equivalent of no dick pic). I have no life, so I have time to read a whole campaign plea…what…ok, so I may have just skimmed the page, but most people won’t. Instead, I just cut to the chase and checked out Gina’s YouTube. So, for you folks who are even lazier than me, who knew that was possible, I’ll save you the search and attach some of her vids.
Gina’s sound speaks to me and got me to back her campaign. Full disclosure, I’m doing this post so the campaign succeeds because I want my signed stuff. Sure, it’s nice to back an indie artist and help make her dream come true, but what about me? So, for those folks who are more self-centered than I, who are we kidding that’s not possible, there’s great perks to be had for you too.
So, if you’re interested in helping me get my merch or you’re the type to be philanthropic (look at me using big words that I couldn’t spell without Spell Check) aiding artists in achieving their goals, Kickstarter has something for everyone.
