Last year I saw Eva Pagán as part of the Unladylike Tour in New York City. Her set was acoustic, gay and mental health inspired. Eva was so good that I came home and bought all her available music. Her newest EP1 dropped last week and I bought it without a second thought or knowing what it would sound like.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that EP1 is positive, bilingual electro-pop. Eva fluidly weaves between English and Spanish, even if you don’t know the language, the vibes explain it all. Eva’s elctro-tweaked vocals are full of love. Love for a person (“Far” and “Til I Die”), a place (“NY LA MIA”), family (“In The Mirror”) and herself (“4evr”). All with a love of dance music.
I was an Eva fan before, and I’m just as much of a fan now, after hearing the direction her music is going in. In my gay opinion, it’s been too long since there’s been a really fun crossover Latina Diva, probably since Shakira, so it’s time for Eva to pick up the tiara and shimmy her way up the dance charts.
