Nxdia’s new EP, Lovemesick, is short but these four songs pack a punch. This is a fist pumping angry anthem to the darker side of love. This EP runs the gamut from being someone’s “favorite color lipstick shade / that discontinued back in May” (“Lovemesick”), to a “casual birthday date / with your parents there and your family dog” (“Balance Beam”), to just wanting “cigs and sweat and casual sex” (“Fuck Me Up”) or not feeling “much smarter for seeing the signs / I know by the ending, you will not be mine” (“Anchor”). Nxdia’s lyrics really paint a picture that’s both longing and being flawed.
In my gay opinion, Nxdia has a unique rocking sound that mixes bilingual lyrics with different musical genres in each song. Nxdia throws in a few spoken vocal break-downs that I’m always a sucker for. There’s a lulling sense of false security one moment that is quickly followed by an angst driven beat the next. It’s a mix that’s both unexpected and so fulfilling.
