I’m a huge Echosmith fan and when I heard the lead singer and sister in the group, Sydney Quiseng, came out with her first solo EP Phases, I had to check it out. Echosmith’s sound is very electro-pop but Sydney’s EP has a more stripped down, singer-songwriter vibe. I love a guitar and vocal focused EP because, in my gay opinion, that’s when a diva’s talent can truly shine. And shine Sydney does.
I’m a sucker for a swaying ballad and this one sounds the most Echosmithy.
“Wonder” is lyrically deep with a sound that’s mellow and cozy.
Bad-ass busking and as rocking as the EP gets.
Emotionally and musically bare with home movies I don’t mind watching…since she kept them under four minutes.
A haunting Country-esque jam that takes me to church…or court.
Who doesn’t love a song that tugs one’s heart strings?
I love that Sydney had a hand in writing all the songs except “I Need Findin'” which is 100% just her. Phases is a slow-paced six-pack that is full of the feels. Sometimes I just love to chill and get lost in some warm vocals and Phases is perfect for that.
