Babygirl’s Stay Here Where It’s Warm

Babygirl dropped their new album, Stay Here Where It’s Warm, last week and it’s just as dreamy as their previous EP’s, Lovers Fevers, Losers Weepers and Be Still My Heart. What I love about Babygirl’s previous EP’s and now Stay Here Where It’s Warm is their sound has remained consistently on brand. They are my go-to for ethereal indie-pop with wispy vocals.

I don’t have anyone in my musical collection quite like Babygirl. However, my partner said Babygirl sounds a bit like one of his favorite indie groups from back in the day, Brittle Stars. When it comes to indie music, my partner’s taste tends to be a bit more straight, white, frat bro which isn’t my thing or Babygirl at all. Nobody’s perfect, so I’m helping him get there. Charo is now the diva he’s seen the most times in concert, much to his chagrin and my immense pleasure.

As for Stay Here Where It’s Warm, I’ve had it on non-stop rotation. I love the sound and well written lyrics. There’s a line in every song that sums it up perfectly. “Take Me Back” admits “Yeah I’ve got some nerve and I don’t deserve to ask / Yeah I broke your heart and I shouldn’t get to sign the cast”, “You don’t know how bad the bruise is til you’re pressing down” explains the emotional pain in “Dancing With Her” and the physical pain of “After You” when “Caught me in your headlights / I forgot to move.”

If warm had a sound, it would be Babygirl. The whole album just wraps you up in a weighted blanket and sways you in comfort, “Give Up With Me” sums it up, “Life is just an intermission / Til that peaceful demolition”. In my gay opinion, Babygirl doesn’t just have a sound, Babygirl is a whole vibe.
