It’s been a year since Lindsay Ell released her Love Myself EP. Her newest, Fence Sitter, is thankfully continuing on her pop journey. Four songs have visualizers and the other a lyric video. Many divas are putting out visualizers instead of a music videos lately. For folks from the MTV generation and too lazy to look it up or care, I took one for the team and Googled the difference. In laymen’s terms (my favorite of terms), a visualizer is a low rent music video.
I love the pop-vibe of Fence Sitter but the lyrics have me relating. Since so much of Lindsay’s music is based on self-reflection, here’s what each song brought up for me.
Years ago, my partner and I took the high-speed train from London to Paris for a day trip. I completed my must-dos: I saw the The Eiffel Tower (obviously), walked near The Arc De Triomphe (I wasn’t about to cross traffic), passed by The Louvre (no stopping in to say hi to The Mona Lisa), had a pastry (the only food I could get by pointing) and was treated rudely by the locals (asking for a bathroom in poor French guaranteed it).
I’d totally be a Fence Sitter if I could decide to be one, but that’s a serious commitment.
Ahhh…the angst of being 23 and stalkery, calling and driving by your boyfriend’s house incessantly, using the Annie Lennox CD you let him borrow as an excuse to see him so he can explain why he’s ghosting you even before ghosting was a thing, when he’d send you to voice mail to leave message after message after message…hmmm…maybe I get it now. My only question to him today would be, where’s my Medusa CD, bitch?
“Good Guy” is my fav. Dating in my 20’s, as a closeted gay, was all about secrets. Who could I tell what to. It wasn’t only my secrets but others as well. Now everything is My Gay Opinion and my closet has a sequined beaded curtain.
In my gay opinion, our exes made us who we are. I don’t think we ever go back to who we were before a bad relationship, they change us, for the better or worse.
Lindsay’s touring to support the EP. Unfortunately, the date near me isn’t convenient but I’m hoping dates get added. She’s on my Must See List…no fence sitting about that.
