It’s been four years since I first discovered Lindsay Ell’s music and finally last week she released her newest EP, Love Myself. I enjoyed Lindsay’s modern country sound which flirted heavily with pop but this new EP is a full-on pop EP and I am living for it. In my gay opinion, this might be her best work yet!
There’s still a hint of Lindsay’s modern country roots, especially on the ballad “Pain Tolerance” but the rest of the EP is about getting things moving, both physically and emotionally. The EP’s pop esthetic, at times has a soft rock vibe with lyrics that are heavily self-love infused. It’s an EP about looking within for answers and being happy with yourself. I’ve been playing the EP a lot at home and when “Love Myself” came on, my partner commented that he thinks of “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac, which coming from him, is a compliment.
My only complaint about the new EP is that it only has five songs and I’m left craving a full album with this new sound. Hopefully this is the direction her musical career is headed in and there’s more to come soon.
