Candi Carpenter’s new EP and short film, Reincarnation, has hard rocking beats over sermons of independent thinking. Their message is delivered with some anger sprinkled with humor. One minute I’m head banging against my car’s steering wheel and the next I’m on my knees with laughter at Candi’s outrageousness. Candi was raised religious but had a falling out with the church, giving them a lot to preach about with a unique perspective and way of conveying it, lyrically and through all the music video’s imagery.
In my gay opinion, there’s been a lot of mixing of church and state negatively in the world today, so it’s good to see Candi blend it into their music in a more artistic way. Welcome to the Church Of Candi which is even more gay than other churches who worship a hot guy in a loin cloth who goes out for brunch with the boys for his last supper. Also, like other religions, there are just as many questions about life as their are answers. Like how did The Go-Go’s Jane Wiedlin end up in the “Reincarnation” short film?
