Holigay 2021

Well, it’s that magical time of the year again when divas feel festive and spread some choral cheer. This year Santa wasn’t overly generous but he did stuff my stocking with one new album and a few singles.

Kristin Chenoweth’s new holiday album might be titled “Happiness Is…Christmas” but, in my gay opinion, happiness is getting to hear some new Kristin music. This is Kristin’s second holiday album and she always does a good mix of well-known holiday hits (“Merry Christmas Baby” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”), some not so well-known hits (“Merry Christmas, Darling” and “The Little Road To Bethlehem”), and some brand-new songs written just for her (“Santa, I’ve Got A Bone To Pick With You”). Whatever Kirstin sings, you can feel the smile on her face and the show tunes in her soul, which I’m grateful for this year.

Another thing I’m grateful for this year is the return of Debbie Gibson with her latest album “The Body Remembers.” Not only did she give the world that piece of pop perfection but she slipped “Christmas Star” under the tree as well. Debbie always delivers pop-positivity in all she does and her new holiday single is no different.

Secret Santa, Taylor Dayne, snuck in a surprise Christmas song this year just as I was getting this post ready. Taylor’s raspy-rocking voice on “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” fits perfectly with this traditional sounding version of this Christmas classic.

This year, singles from divas old and new, brought some holiday hope. I discovered country-pop diva Lindsay Ell the end of last year and quickly added her new single, “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas,” to my seasonal stockpile of diva delights this year. Lindsay’s country sound shines on this version.

This year we’ll be having a Blond Christmas from Broadway to Nashville and every pop town in between and there’s no better way to spend the holidays.
