I first discovered Imani Graham and her music when she opened for Marielle Kraft last year at a show here in Connecticut and I’ve been a fan since. I’m also a fan of the show Heartstopper on Netflix so it was the perfect pairing when they used “Just Stay For Once” by Imani in a scene from the sixth episode of the latest season. Glad to see her getting the exposure she deserves…besides just here.
The thing that first drew me to Imani is her smooth sound and heartfelt lyrics, this EP has more of the same. The Space Between Trying And Silence rides a building and crashing echoey-electronic wave of relationship drama on the songs “Used To Make Sense”, “Bitter Pill” and “Waiting”. While the ballads, “Silver Lining” and “Back To You”, have a beautiful musical ebb and flow that surf atop Imani’s rich vocals. Of the five tracks on the EP, Imani has written three and co-written the other two. She really put herself out there on this EP, in my gay opinion.
Since my last post, I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Imani in concert again but perhaps with the release of this EP and her song’s Heartstopper cameo, she might get the chance to do more shows and if the opportunity presents itself, I am so there!
