V.A. Vazquez’s The Death Row Club

Every night I strip down to my skivvies, crawl into bed with my first love, and run my fingers up and down his spine. Obviously, I’m talking books, what else would you expect from someone who uses the word skivvies? It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited in bed (literarily speaking) thanks to V.A. Vazquez’s “The Death Row Club” which I binged in a few days. Murder Mystery isn’t my go-to genre, but V.A. won me over.

Nicola’s father is the current serial killer to go viral thanks to the show “To Catch A Killer” which Nicola participated in, inadvertently getting her father arrested and causing her to lose family, friends and her career in the process. She has nothing else to lose when a mysterious invitation arrives asking her to join The Death Row Club, a group of adult children of serial killers who meet in secrecy. Find out what happens when you get a handful of emotionally-traumatized people, who are surrounded by murder and a warped sense of love, alone in a desolate cabin in the woods.

V.A. was on the Pulp Crime For Modern Times panel at the “Dark Summer Book Fest” at the Framingham Massachusetts Public Library that I recently attended. When V.A. laid out her detailed musical playlists for serial killers, the parents of three small children who thought a pulp crime panel was child appropriate (not thought out, in my gay opinion), fled the room. If V.A.’s super power is clearing a room of children, she’s invited out to dinner with me anytime (her treat). When meeting authors, I wonder if they’ll be like their books, thankfully V.A. wasn’t out to kill me…except with kindness.
