Madonna’s Confessions II

Leave it to Madonna to cash in on something that’s been around forever but make it her own. Sequels are a staple in film but I don’t think it’s been done in music, until Confessions II, a companion to her 2005 album Confessions On A Dance Floor. Historically sequels are never as good, but in my gay opinion, Madonna’s broken that rule.

Sequels also have certain rules, which Madonna honors. #1 Stay in your genre: dance music is what Madonna is best known for and it’s great having her back where she belongs, in the club. Madonna’s breathy confessions and electronically altered vocals elevate these typical bass-heavy dance beats. #2 Up your star power: Confessions II has Sabrina Carpenter, Feid, Martin Garrix, Stromae, and (keeping it in the family) her daughter Lola Leon guest starring. Finally, give the fans what they want: there’s a few Easter eggs on the new album that hint back to previous songs and albums throughout her career. My fav being “Danceteria” the “Vogue” tribute.

It’s no secret that Madonna’s last album, Madame X, wasn’t one of my favs. It was the first time Madonna disappointed me with a new album. However, Confessions II is definitely her redemption album in my eyes and I’m anxiously awaiting her next sequel, Unlike A Virgin.
