What I like about Bonner Black is just how honest her songwriting is. Her new EP, Little Bird In A Big Sky, is musical storytelling at it’s best with a sound that is unlike anything else out there, strong vocals over a modern pop country-folkish vibe.
Bonner reflects on her past (“Happy As We Were”), shares her growth (“Little Bird In A Big Sky”) from Tennessee party girl (“If It’s Gone”) searching for the one (“Love In The Modern World”) to a woman in love (“Honest Woman”). Bonner got me driving around belting out “I always knew it’d take a man like you to make an honest woman out of me.” At least I have my go-to karaoke song if I ever want to subject the world to such torture.
In my gay opinion, Little Bird In A Big Sky is an ode to love. Bonner found something within herself that makes for a healthier relationship with someone else. Her message is all about spreading your wings and finding the perfect place to land.
